Memorial Upgrade

The original Memorial in front of the Largs Bay RSL Club was erected by the Drummond Family in memory of William ‘Roy’ Sharpe Drummond MM shortly after he passed away on the 15th December 1966. Roy was a war hero and a local Football Legend, being one of the Indestructibles, the 1914 undefeated Magpies team. He played football for the Magpies from 1913-1920 broken only by his War Service. An extremely passionate and loyal RSL member Roy was the Club President (3 years) and Vice President (2 years) of RSL Largs Bay Sub-Branch.

Unfortunately, the Memorial had deteriorated over the years and not all conflicts were represented on the monument. With the concurrence of the Drummond Family, financial assistance from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and the support of our club volunteers, the Memorial was modernised and updated with additional memorial plaques in time for ANZAC Day 2019.

The new memorial recognises all our all recent conflicts, our Peacekeepers and the First Responders. Furthermore, to Commemorate those local Military personnel who lost their lives in WW1, engraved pavers were installed around the Memorial. The project also included the installation of permanent bench seating to allow the Community members to sit and reflect.

There is now an opportunity, at minimal cost, for Club members or members of the local community to add Veteran family members to this area.
